Commonwealth Kitchen & Café will close Feb. 19 at 420 Pearl St. in Lancaster city.

The owners of Commonwealth Kitchen & Café announced they will be closing their Lancaster city café at 420 Pearl St. but plan to continue as a catering operation. They also said they hope to open a new café sometime soon in the same neighborhood.

“It is with deep gratitude and some sadness that we inform you that this location of Commonwealth will close on Monday February 19th,” owners Mark and Rachael Reinmiller wrote in a Facebook post announcing their plans. “We absolutely love this neighborhood and plan to reopen a cafe in a new location when the time is right.”

The Reinmillers opened Commonwealth Kitchen and Café in spring 2020. They previously had Commonwealth on Queen, a café at 301 N. Queen St. that they operated from 2013 until August 2020.

The Reinmillers said they are closing the café because the lease on the property was not extended. The café has inside seating for around 20 and room for about 15 on an outside patio.
