I received both an email and postcard from Congressman Lloyd Smucker titled “2023 Year in Review,” in which he tries to convince the reader that he accomplished something for his constituents. In it, he takes credit for introducing or co-sponsoring 147 bills and returning $49,392,212.82 from federal agencies to constituents since his first term.

First, since this Republican-controlled U.S. House is part of what has been the least productive session of Congress since the early 1930s, I would love to know how many of those bills became law.

Second, I wonder if the vast majority of the $49 million was due to Democratic-sponsored legislation that Smucker voted against.

How ridiculous. Instead of bragging, he should be ashamed of being a member of this sad majority in the U.S. House that has accomplished nothing but making noise.
