PIAA track and field championships day two

Cedar Crest's Kaddel Howard wins the 3A girls 400 meter run during the PIAA track and field championships at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium Saturday May 27, 2023.

There were some notable performances from Lancaster-Lebanon League track and field athletes at the Golden Wolves Challenge Sunday.

Girls from Cedar Crest and Warwick captured first-place finishes at the indoor meet held at Alvernia University.

Cedar Crest’s Kaddel Howard, who took the track scene by storm as a freshman last spring, was a winner in two events. Howard finished the 200 in 25.91 and the 400 in 59.79. She was the District Three and PIAA Class 3A champ in the 400 in May.

Other winners from Cedar Crest included Audrey Fugate, who took the 1,600 in 5:51.56, and Hailee Kreiser, who won the pole vault at 10-0.

Warwick dominated the relays, taking first in the 800, 1,600 and 4,000 distance medley. Katie Becker was the Warriors’ lone individual champ, prevailing in the high jump at 5-2. Becker finished third in PIAA Class 3A in that event last season.

Among the other Warwick standouts was Marissa Helderman, who was third in the triple jump at 34-3.75. Helderman was the District Three Class 3A runner-up last season. Teammate Lily Smith set a PR in the long jump at 17-1 and placed second.

Octorara’s Mathieux Mallon was the sole L-L winner among the boys. Mallon took first in the long jump with a personal-best 22-4. Warwick’s Jordan Barge was second in the 400 at 53.53.

Many of the L-L’s top athletes will be competing at the Franklin & Marshall Invite Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
