Donegal v Twin Valley-PIAA 2A Semifinal

Donegal head coach Jessica Shellenberger, talks to her players after beating Twin Valley 2-0 in a PIAA 2A field hockey semifinal at Warwick High School in Lititz Tuesday Nov. 13, 2018.

Donegal will induct a new class of athletes and a coach to its Hall of Fame at 7 p.m. Friday in the high school auditorium.

This year’s honorees include Brian Ney, Class of 1979. A three-sport athlete competing in football, basketball and baseball, Ney earned nine varsity letters in his scholastic career.

Ney was the quarterback of the undefeated 1978 football team, going 11-0 with the only undefeated football team in school history. He had a 20-2 record as starting QB and was the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal Player of the Year MVP for Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Three in 1978.

A two-year starting point guard in basketball, Ney was also a two-time all-star outfielder on the baseball team.

In 15 seasons as varsity field hockey coach, Jessica Shellenberger led the Indians to a record of 308-56-9. Along the way the team collected 10 L-L section championships, three league championships, six District Three titles and the 2016 and 2018 PIAA championships.

Shellenberger earned coach of the year honors from various outlets eight times, including the USFHA’s People’s Choice National Coach of the Year in 2019. She sent 25 players to NCAA Division I programs, including nine All-American selections.

Shellenberger is currently a member of both the Warwick High School Hall of Fame (2014) and also the Susquehanna Valley Sports Hall of Fame (2017).

Two of Shellenberger’s teams — the state champions of 2016 and 2018 — will be inducted alongside their coach. The 2016 team was 29-0 and the 2018 team finished 28-1.

The ceremony is free and open to the public.
