Lancaster residents will need to slow on major highways throughout the county as the state has put speed restrictions on the roads as crews clear Tuesday morning snow.

PennDOT reduced speed limits to 45 mph on Routes 283, 222 and 30 from Columbia to the Walnut Street exit just east of Lancaster city. Interstate 70, which runs the northern top of the county, is reduced to 55 mph. There is no timeframe for when the restrictions will be lifted.

Forecasters expect the snow, which has coated the county since Monday afternoon, to stop around noon today. Forecasters also predict the county will see a total of 2-4 inches of snow by Tuesday afternoon.

County buildings, schools and libraries are largely closed because of the snowfall as public work crews plow roads and clear out thoroughfares.

There is another snow expected Thursday night into Friday, with meteorologists forecasting 1-3 inches of accumulation.
