Fans of the colorful Fruit Stripe gum are disappointed to learn that it will no longer be available.

“A piece of my childhood just died,” said one fan on Reddit.

Ferrara Foods - the maker of Jujyfruits, Nerds, Spree, Bottle Caps and Pixy Stix - reportedly has confirmed the flavor has been discontinued.

A representative told CNN, “The decision to sunset this product was not taken lightly. We considered many factors before coming to this decision, including consumer preferences, and purchasing patterns – and overall brand trends for Fruit Stripe Gum.”

The gum has been sold since the 1960s in five flavors. Each pack also came with a temporary tattoo of the mascot, Yipes, a zebra.

While fans are mourning the loss, others commented that its flavor was brief.

“I mean, zebra strip is delicious, but the flavor only lasts like three seconds.”

Another said, “The wildest three second ride that your tastebuds ever knew.” And, “I’ve never been this upset over losing something so mediocre.”

The gum is no longer listed on Ferrara’s website and could not be found on Amazon.

It is available on candystore.com for $26.99 for 12 packs. PennLive also found it on eBay for $189 for 11 packs. That seems a bit extreme.
