State made six free throws and Horne followed with a jumper during an 8-0 spurt that gave the Wolfpack a 73-69 lead with 1:50 remaining. Andrew Carr’s three-point play pulled Wake Forest to 73-72, but Ben Middlebrooks answered with a layup and the Wolfpack shot 8 of 9 from the free-throw line to seal it for N.C. State (13-4, 5-1 ACC). Carr scored a career-high 28 points for Wake Forest (12-5, 4-2).

Dan Skillings Jr.'s go-ahead layup with 22 seconds left in overtime lifted Cincinnati to an 81-77 victory over No. 19 TCU. Day Day Thomas scored 21 points and John Newman III had 20 to lead the Bearcats. Trevian Tennyson scored 17 and Emanuel Miller had 15 for TCU, which had just entered the rankings this week following wins over Oklahoma and Houston. Cincinnati faced its fourth consecutive ranked opponent for the first time since the 1993-94 season. TCU led by as many as 11 points in the first half.

Blake Wheeler had two goals, Kaapo Kakko scored in his second game back from a long injury absence and the New York Rangers beat the Seattle Kraken 5-2. Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves as the Rangers won their second consecutive game after four straight losses. Vincent Trocheck and Erik Gustafsson scored in the first period for New York. Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann had the Seattle goals. The Rangers were coming off a 2-1 home win over Washington on Sunday to snap their skid. Seattle’s nine-game winning streak ended with a 3-0 loss at Pittsburgh on Monday. Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox each had two assists for the Rangers.

The NBA has fined Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown $50,000 for his court-storming outburst against a referee. Joe Dumars, the league’s head of basketball operations, announced Tuesday that Brown has been fined for “aggressively pursuing a game official during live play, and for publicly criticizing the officiating.” Brown was ejected in the fourth quarter of the Kings’ 143-142 overtime loss to Milwaukee on Sunday night. He stormed onto the court and began screaming at referee Intae Hwang. Kings players had to restrain him. Brown made comments about the officiating afterward.

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has told teammates he intends to retire after 13 NFL seasons, according to three people informed of the decision. They spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday out of respect for Kelce’s decision, which he has not yet made public. The 36-year-old was in tears throughout the end of Philadelphia’s 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an NFC wild-card game Monday night. The respected team leader declined to talk to the media about his plans after the game. He has been the heart of the Eagles, a hero on the Philadelphia sports scene and a Super Bowl champion. He made 156 straight starts and received six All-Pro Team selections.

Ethan Bear scored his first NHL goal in almost exactly a year as the Washington Capitals blanked the Anaheim Ducks 2-0. Darcy Kuemper stopped all 24 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season. Washington has won three of its past five games to keep pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race midway through the season. John Gibson made 26 saves in net for Anaheim in his second start in as many days. The Ducks have lost eight of 10.
